The class meets Thursdays 2-4PM in E15-525

How can learning change in an era in which we have smart devices with us all the time? Devices which increasingly will be able to perceive our actions and the environment around us and offer relevant information? In this reading seminar and project-oriented course we will discuss this question as well as study technologies which can support “just-in-time”, situated learning. The goal of the course will be to collaboratively design and prototype a set of novel devices and software systems that could support such situated learning. Some of the topics covered include: augmented intelligence, wearable devices, just-in-time information and learning, techniques for supporting real-time learning from peers, mobile learning, augmented reality and mixed reality technologies. Students should be prepared to be active participants in discussions, do research on and present relevant technologies and prior work and finally engage in group projects to prototype novel concepts.
