The Trailer Project
Cut two trailers for Scorsese's Life Lessons (the first short in New York Stories). One trailer should be 90 seconds, the second trailer should be 30 seconds. The trailers should be cut using the Videoshop software and digitized footage provided for you on the Macs. You may choose to build a sound track using the sound effects CD.
Notes on process:
Before beginning to pull footage into your folder from the digitized movie, you need to think up a story strategy. Think about the movie. What aspects of Life Lessons as a story can you convey in a short time? By articulating a strategy, you will be able to select a few shots and sounds from the longer film.
1) Who you are cutting your trailer for? How will story and pacing affect this audience?
2) What information must a trailer include?
3) Define the story purpose and identify a narrative schema for your trailer.
