MAS.877: Special Effects for New Cinema

Thursdays, 3:00 - 5:00 PM, in N52-390 (CAVS Conference Room)

Description:

This course explores special effects from the perspective of the story, message, and technique with the intent to broaden the studentÕs critical eye, engage creativity, and extend visual, graphic, and programming skills. We begin with an analysis of several example effects taken from film, television, and the web. Students will create one new special effect each week using particular techniques and software packages discussed and demonstrated in class, and then work collaboratively on a more complex sequence which includes one or more effects. A final ÒshowÓ of these effects will be displayed at the end of the term. Open to graduate and undergraduate students.
