This is not so much a story, but rather some sort of news. Every year the ASTMH meets with reserachers and doctors from all over the world to discuss issues centered on infectious diseases. This year a new topic for Symposia was added. It was Global Health. As a contributer for this meeting I introduced a tentative Symposium topic (4 speakers) on the use of cell phone technologies for the improvement of community participation and and in health interventions and preventive medicine. I hope they select this Symposium among the topics as perhaps we will have a good audience to discuss practical applications of what we are learning in this course.
I will keep you posted of the outcome in this regard. Also the speakers would have to be finalized if selected. Most likely it will be. Thanks for sending any suggestions for speakers too.
The ASTMH is among the very few big meetings in USA that has a large audience from Africa, South America and Asia. And Washington DC is always a good City to visit in December too. Here is the website of the Society www.astmh.org or if you would like to find out more about it. I listed some cool people from the Media Lab as tentative speakers, for course.

Irene.
