Energy Cycles – Human Performance
I chose to reflect on my daily energy levels. During my reflection I focused on my fluctuations in energy. Mornings are particularly difficult for me, while evenings usually come with a burst of energy around the time I should be preparing for bed. Early afternoons seem to best time for me to be full of energy and capable of working on complex problems. While the evenings are energy full for me, it is not the best time for me to tackle hard problems. Toward the late afternoons to early evenings I seem to have another plateau of energy.
While I enjoy sleeping in, my body does not seem to need more than 8 hours of sleep. When reflecting on my sleep patterns I noticed that when I let my body wake up naturally it usually awakened around the 8-hour mark. I would have to force myself to sleep longer if I wanted to sleep in.
After reflecting on my energy levels I reflected on how I can use this information to best manage my day to be as productive as possible. The normal workday does not seem to be very conducive to what my body naturally wants to do. However, if I start my day when my body awakens, I may be able to get more out of my day.
