There are several forms of art that convey a lot of emotions (like music, and videos). In this proposal, I want to make paintings alive, breathe, and react to what is happening around them. I find these subtle movements to be fascinating and very expressive. Now paintings can have a third dimension of expression.

Also nano actuators and other material can be used to change the ambiance of the painting based on the time of the day (or other external factors)

Udayan’s comments:  I like the direction. It would be really interesting to come up with more interaction scenarios. You can start by defining the art form you are referring to(need not be just painting), then think about transformation primitives, then pick very specific interaction scenarios. The smart shelf in one location can detect the ingredients on it, and can detect how much a cook use for a meal. Then it shares this recipe with a smart shelf in another location. The receiving shelf will shake the ingredients that need to be used in order, and will provide information on how much to use from each ingredient. I can cook with my girl friend when she is away and enjoy the same meal as her, or I can cook my mom’s recipe that she shared with me last week.

I have a great appreciation for design and art, and some of the questions that I have been interested in answering lately are: Can art and technology positively influence social behavior? Can technology capture different senses (like texture, smell, hear rate), then regenerate them to provide a more holistic experience of captured moments in our lives?
