Experimenting with materials

Ready Made Fuzz from Dryer + Copper Fibers

'CONCEPT'

I wanted to find materials at home that could be use to make a non woven. Ever since I was a child, the fuzzy stuff that came out of the dryer had a great appeal. I could not make myself throw it out: it was this soft little blanket I could eventually use if one day i could put them all together and stitch them and and and... It never went further than using it for dolls. Out of lack of felting needles at home, i tried using a pair of hors d'oeuvr pickers to not much success to felt the fuzz together with copper fibers. I wonder actually if using the dryer as a "felting machine" would work by controlling what we stick in it. Maybe by drying fuzzy prone materials along with conductive fibers we could make a nice, clean and soft felt!

Grass + Silicone

'CONCEPT'

Again in my attempt to find materials at hand, I thought about using grass as a staple fiber. I initially wanted to bond it with a natural resin or wax but they seemed to brittle. Given time constrains I opted for silicone, though I still believe that a soft wax might work, though might not be very durable and flexible. The grass has a lovely texture and color, though the way I made it has a flat side which has the grass completely contained and one where you can actually appreciate the texture. I am awaiting for it to be totally dried and see how flexible it feels, for if it is, I'd like to try doing it again with less silicone to create a grass mesh.
