I’m interested in exploring this heat bondable fiber, in terms of its structural properties as well as its aesthetic features. It’s turned out that once you got a certain thickness and heat it, you can treat it as a paper afterward. By means of paper, you can bend and fold it to perform some rigidity or simply make a 3D shape out of it. You can also cut it manually or using laser cutter. One interesting feature is that the fiber changes it colors when it get heated, leave the burned area flat, brighter, reflective and a bit sparkling, while the unburned area remains in its original appearance. Here, I simply ‘paint’ the fiber using the iron to create burn-unburned composition, and then laser-cut it with some pattern as a guidance to fold the sheet.
