What’s your favorite thing you’ve made?
DYI door of my room
When I moved in my current apartment, there was no door in my room, I had to set it up by myself. So I went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of woods, a door knob, hinges ..etc. As EE/CS major, I wanted to add some extra function to my door. The door is controllable from smartphone via wifi-network on Arduino platform.
Still it only has a simple functionality but the reason why that it’s my favorite is that this was actually my first experience that I used my knowledge from research to develop my daily products. This gave a strong motivation to use my knowledge in order to make my life or others’ more convenient and fun.
What’s the most frustrating object you’ve used?
Doors that are hard to distinguish whether they have to be pushed or pulled to open. When it’s opposite to what I think it is, my arm hurts so bad and makes me more stressful than any other moment. Seriously.
What do you personally hope to get out of this class?
My research mainly focuses on real-time cooperative work with multiple people and aims to introduce new methods for a task learning using computational support.
As the main focus of this class corresponds exactly to my theme, my research would not be more fulfilling one without taking this class. By taking this class, I’d like to acquire general knowledge about this topic as well as sharing my knowledge to others in order to elaborate my ideas.
How can you contribute to the class?
Apart from that, I’m looking forward to collaborating with other people from different fields, sharing ideas/opinions and working together.
About contributions that I can make to this class, I have strong skills on Rapid Prototyping, from hardware like EE board, laser cutting/3D printing, mechanical modules to software like mobile applications, Processing/Openframeworks.
