Identity project

Two proposals for the Medialab Identity in E14.

Assignment for Tuesday 4/7 E14 Performance: Work Results

Software Team:
- Figure out Edge Blending pre-existing library?
- Keystoning > distorting opengl image
- one app, 2 opengl windows (>processing)
- 3D Model Import in Quartz Composer / Processing / OpenGL?
- which software to use

Graphics:
- Visualize the 3D perspective of the building. How does it work to focus on one specific lab? How is the motion?
- What visual representations can we have—type. images etc? How

Audio and Interaction (currently the same)
- Can we get input from 4 mics? does it need a hardware interface?
- what software to use? will we use a second computer which is connect to the one in the 3rd floor?
- how do the mics look like? Make the interaction understandable.

Paul Mijksenaar's Talk on Monday

We are very happy to welcome Paul Mijksenaar to our class next Tuesday. Find below the info for his talk on Monday, we expect to see all of MAS 960.

WHAT:
Paul Mijksenaar:
"Architecture and Wayfinding: A Matter of Spaces and Cues"

WHEN:
Monday, March 30, 2009 5:00pm - 7:00pm

WHERE:
Wiesner Room, MIT Media Lab (2nd Floor)

SUMMARY:
In this talk, Paul Mijksenaar will demonstrate his ideas on the strong role of architecture for wayfinding (spatial) criteria and, accordingly, the task of the signage's (verbal) criteria. In addition, he will discuss the challenges and opportunities of dynamic signage with active interfaces.

BIO:

Tests finished

We have finished our projection tests. Images from tests on the model can be found here. Daniel took pictures of our tests outside, these can be found here.
Both really look great, so we think we are in a really good shape! Please keep in mind that the model photos of course look really good in the way they are shot, and might look different when you stand in front of the model.

Please vote in the comment section which way you prefer.

E 14/15 Wayfinding pt II presentation

Keynote presentation of phase II.

Follow Me: Electronic Wayfinding System

Follow me is a proposal for a digital wayfinding system. It would have an awareness of the individuals moving through E14, and could recognize them if they want to. It could know where people would want to go and would display information when ever and where ever they need them.
The design would consist of a laser-projected image on the ground. A person looking for a specific location would simply follow the projected image all the way to the planned destination. As it would be connected with a smart database of all rooms, and their current usage, and of all users, the system could also display spatial information about current events, the location of people you want or should meet, or an exhibit that might interest you.
