Two ideas are presented for revealing E14 during a Sponsor Week event using projection. A third idea presents a rough concept for a permanent physical installation on the pipe screen surfaces of E14.

body movin': activating a building using simple physical interactions

The Idea Mixer
An interactive fluid mechanics simulation representing the
flow and mixing of ideas in the media lab; it also previews the new lab.

The Empathetic Facade
The building reacts to its inhabitants' moods.

The Embossed Building
The building reconfigures its surface to simulate
various light interactions, such as surface textures, bas-relief
and embossing.

Transforming the fire stairs in e-14 into a musical instrument

Playing with the idea of projected shadows to make vertical travel in the stairwell more interesting + interactive.

An idea for elevators with "eyes" and "ears", and stairs with "pets".

Because they are so spatially and temporally circumscribed, elevators have engendered an commonly understood but poorly articulated set of rules for maintaining personal space. An AI system learns these heuristics by observation, and presents elevator riders with a model of their own behavior as a formal diagram of the type used to illustrate ballroom dances.
